Originating from the North East I settled in Ripon 8 years ago where, along with my partner, I have built a succesful business trading across the UK and Europe. I have developed a strong bond with the City, having lived in many places I have never come across such a combination of great surroundings and wonderful people.

My career began in the steel industry on Teesside, with the almost total loss of the industry I moved into the retail sector. Experience has left me with a strong desire to see open, fair Government and a passion for real social care and decent housing for everyone. Without good quality social and affordable housing we will lose our young people and with them our city's future, new luxury homes are very nice but they don't help the homeless or elderly people marginalised by Conservative government cuts.

Ripon centre should have a viable plan for the future, innitiatives to replace the departing nationals within innovate unique shops combined with our existing attractions can make Ripon a destination City. Artisan workshop/dwellings at reasonable rents can help launch local enterprises. Planning regulations can be used to limit unhealthy food outlets and encourage healthier eating choices.

Harrogate Borough Council and Ripon City Council are not just not listening, they don't even ask the questions unless public outcry forces them. We need representatives who ask, listen and engage with the community, the secretive "cabinet" system at HBC must be replaced by open council meetings.
